What happens

An increased risk of myopathy and rhabdomyolysis

Interaction Deep Dive

Avoid concomitant use of fenofibrate and HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors, including simvastatin, as it may increase the risk of myopathy or rhabdomyolysis. Consider if the benefit of using fibrates concomitantly with fluvastatin, unless the benefit of further alterations in triglyceride levels outweighs the increased risk of myopathy and rhabdomyolysis2. If concomitant use is decided, monitor patients for signs and symptoms of myopathy, particularly during initiation of therapy and during upward dose titration 1.
