Mitoxantrone falls under ANTITUMOR ANTIBIOTICS — the group Acerola interacts with.

Theoretically, the antioxidant effects of acerola might reduce the effectiveness of antitumor antibiotics.
Acerola contains vitamin C, an antioxidant. There is concern that antioxidants might reduce the activity of chemotherapy drugs that generate free radicals, such as antitumor antibiotics. In contrast, other researchers theorize that antioxidants might make antitumor antibiotic chemotherapy more effective by reducing oxidative stress that could interfere with apoptosis (cell death) of cancer cells. More evidence is needed to determine what effects, if any, antioxidants such as vitamin C have on antitumor antibiotic chemotherapy.

Here's the thinking behind this one. Mitoxantrone is a chemo medicine that partly works by creating free radicals, unstable molecules that help damage and kill the targeted cells. Acerola is loaded with vitamin C, which is an antioxidant, meaning it mops up free radicals. So on paper, there's a worry that big antioxidant doses could blunt how well mitoxantrone works.

I want to be honest, though: this is only a theory. It's based on how these things behave in the lab, not on solid human studies, and some researchers actually argue antioxidants might help. We just don't know yet. The amount in a normal serving of fruit is unlikely to matter, but concentrated supplements are a different story. Please loop in your oncology team before taking any vitamin C supplement during treatment.

What Is Mitoxantrone Injection Used For?

Brand name: Novantrone

Mitoxantrone Injection is used to reduce neurologic disability and the frequency of relapses in adults with secondary progressive, progressive relapsing, or worsening relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis (MS). It is not indicated for primary progressive MS.

Mitoxantrone Injection, in combination with corticosteroids, is also used as initial chemotherapy for pain related to advanced hormone-refractory prostate cancer. In combination with other approved drugs, it is used in the initial treatment of acute nonlymphocytic leukemia (ANLL) in adults, which includes several subtypes such as myelogenous, promyelocytic, monocytic, and erythroid acute leukemias.
