Let me be upfront: I'd never recommend European mandrake. It's a genuinely poisonous plant, and the bigger danger here isn't really the interaction itself, it's the mandrake toxicity on its own.

That said, the interaction on file is mostly theoretical and based on how the chemistry should behave. Mandrake's tropane alkaloids (like atropine and scopolamine) slow down the gut, and that slower movement could, in theory, let some oral medicines sit longer and get absorbed more. One important point for you: Mitoxantrone (Novantrone) is given as an IV infusion in a clinic, not as a pill you swallow. So this gut-related concern doesn't really apply to it. Still, please don't take mandrake, and check with your oncologist or pharmacist before combining anything with chemotherapy.

“Very little here is casual, because mitoxantrone (Novantrone) is chemotherapy for certain cancers and aggressive multiple sclerosis, and anything that weakens it can cost real ground. The one major-rated interaction, activated charcoal, can pull the drug back out of the body even though mitoxantrone is given by IV.”

About Mitoxantrone Injection

What Is Mitoxantrone Injection Used For?

Brand name: Novantrone

Mitoxantrone Injection is used to reduce neurologic disability and the frequency of relapses in adults with secondary progressive, progressive relapsing, or worsening relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis (MS). It is not indicated for primary progressive MS.

Mitoxantrone Injection, in combination with corticosteroids, is also used as initial chemotherapy for pain related to advanced hormone-refractory prostate cancer. In combination with other approved drugs, it is used in the initial treatment of acute nonlymphocytic leukemia (ANLL) in adults, which includes several subtypes such as myelogenous, promyelocytic, monocytic, and erythroid acute leukemias.
