Here's the gist with aluminum hydroxide antacids like Amphojel or Gaviscon: their whole job is to neutralize extra stomach acid so you get relief from heartburn, sour stomach, or ulcer pain. There are old anecdotal reports that aletris may actually bump up stomach acid a bit. If that's true, the herb could work against your antacid and make it feel like it's not calming things down as well as usual.

I want to be honest, though: this is a very weak, theoretical concern based on tradition and not solid human studies, and it's rated minor. It's unlikely to cause anything dangerous. Still, if you notice your antacid isn't working as well, mention the aletris to your pharmacist or doctor so they can take a look.

Aluminum hydroxide is used in two distinct ways depending on the product. The oral liquid form relieves heartburn, acid indigestion, and sour stomach.
