Theoretically, taking algal oil with antihypertensive drugs might increase the risk of hypotension.
Algal oil usually contains docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and/or eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA). There is evidence that fish oil, which also contains DHA and EPA, can modestly lower blood pressure and might have additive effects in patients treated with antihypertensive drugs.

Here's the simple version: the omega-3 fats in algal oil (DHA and EPA) can nudge your blood pressure down a little on their own. Since valsartan is already working to lower your blood pressure, stacking the two together could have an additive effect. In plain terms, your numbers might drop a bit more than expected.

If that happens, you could feel lightheaded, dizzy, or woozy when you stand up quickly. Honestly, this is a theoretical concern based on how these work, and the blood-pressure effect from omega-3s is usually modest, so most people do fine. Still, it's worth letting your pharmacist or doctor know you're taking it, and keep an eye on your readings at home. Don't change anything on your own.

Algal oil is a plant-based source of the omega-3 fats DHA and (in some products) EPA, making it a popular alternative to fish oil for vegetarians, vegans, and people who dislike fish. There is reasonable evidence that omega-3s can lower triglycerides and support heart and brain health, though more research is needed for many specific uses. It is generally well tolerated, but check with your pharmacist or doctor before starting, especially if you take blood thinners or are pregnant.

About Valsartan

What Is Valsartan Used For?

Brand names: Diovan, Prexxartan

Valsartan treats high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults and children, heart failure in adults, and reduces the risk of cardiovascular death in adults who have had a heart attack and have a weakened heart muscle. Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of stroke and heart attack.

Diovan (valsartan) tablets are approved to treat high blood pressure in children as young as 1 year old. Valsartan tablets (other brands) are approved for children 6 years and older. Valsartan oral solution is specifically indicated for patients with heart failure or post-heart attack left ventricular dysfunction who are unable to swallow tablets.
