Belumosudil Mesylate falls under ORAL DRUGS — the group Algin interacts with.

Theoretically, algin can alter the absorption of oral drugs. Laboratory research shows that algin, when consumed as part of the diet or used as a thickening agent in infant formula, reduces the absorption of certain minerals. Also, algin has been used as a tablet binder and disintegrant to enhance drug bioavailability. To avoid changes in absorption, take algin 30-60 minutes after oral medications.

Here's the gist with Rezurock (belumosudil) and algin (seaweed fiber). Because algin soaks up water and turns into a thick gel in your stomach, there's a chance it could trap some of your belumosudil and keep your gut from absorbing all of it. If less drug gets in, the medicine may not work as well at calming your graft versus host disease, which is something you really don't want with a treatment this important.

To be clear, this is only a theoretical concern based on how algin behaves, not on real cases with this exact drug. A simple fix is spacing them out: take your belumosudil first, then wait about 30 to 60 minutes before any algin supplement. Run it by your pharmacist or doctor before adding algin so your dose stays effective.

It is specifically for patients aged 12 and older whose chronic GVHD has not responded to at least two prior systemic (whole-body) treatments.
