No Known Interaction
The bottom line No known interaction

We found no known interaction between Alpinia and Chloroprocaine in our sources. Absence of a documented interaction is not the same as proven safety, and does not guarantee one does not exist. Alpinia and Chloroprocaine

We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.

No Known Interaction Found

We did not find a documented interaction between Chloroprocaine and Alpinia in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.

If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.

Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

Alpinia safety at a glance

Alpinia overall Use caution Generally well tolerated as a food, but supplement-level safety is not well studied.
Pregnancy Avoid Not enough safety data, so avoid medicinal amounts during pregnancy.
Breastfeeding Avoid Lack of safety data means it is best avoided in supplement form while breastfeeding.

Safety guidance is general; always confirm with your pharmacist or doctor for your situation.

How we checked

Why No Interaction Is Listed for Chloroprocaine

Interactions in our licensed database are recorded against drug classes, not just single drug names. Chloroprocaine is filed under a single classification — anesthesia. Alpinia has documented interactions with 4 drug classes — the most serious being antacids (minor), h2-blockers (minor) and indomethacin (tivorbex) (minor) — and none of Chloroprocaine’s classifications are among them.

Classification data comes from our licensed Natural Medicines dataset. A medication can belong to classes beyond those recorded there, so this describes how the check was run — it is not a safety guarantee.

What Chloroprocaine’s Own FDA Label Lists

This is not an interaction — none of it involves Alpinia. These are the most notable effects listed in the ADVERSE REACTIONS section of Chloroprocaine’s own FDA label, for the medication by itself. Knowing the drug’s own list makes it easier to work out the likely cause if something new turns up while you take both. 5 of them are worth acting on rather than waiting out — marked below.

  • A slow heartbeat Worth acting on
  • Fainting Worth acting on
  • Seizures Worth acting on
  • Low mood Worth acting on
  • Hives Worth acting on
  • Ringing in the ears
  • Blurred vision
  • Sweating
  • Back pain
  • A fast or pounding heartbeat

From the ADVERSE REACTIONS section of the FDA label for Chloroprocaine. Read the label on DailyMed › Alpinia’s licensed record lists no adverse effects our clinical vocabulary could match, so there is no Alpinia side to compare — that is a limit of the record, not a statement that Alpinia has no side effects.

See Every Supplement That Interacts With Chloroprocaine

This page covers Alpinia only. If you take other supplements — a multivitamin, a sleep aid, something for joints — the Chloroprocaine page lists 5 supplements it has a documented interaction with, worst first, each one explained.

The most serious there right now: Fever Bark (major), Cannabis (moderate), Cowhage (moderate), Datura Wrightii (moderate) and Delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (thc) (moderate).

By severity: 1 major · 4 moderate.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Chloroprocaine page

“Fever bark is the ingredient I would flag first for anyone scheduled to receive chloroprocaine (Nesacaine), a local anesthetic injected for epidurals and other numbing procedures. It holds the list's lone major rating because its constituent reserpine has been linked to unstable blood pressure and heart rhythm under anesthesia.”

About Alpinia

What is Alpinia?

Alpinia
  • Digestive upset and bloating
  • Nausea
  • Anti-inflammatory support
  • Respiratory and cough complaints
  • Antimicrobial
  • Appetite stimulant

Alpinia (lesser galangal) is a ginger-family root long used in Asian cooking and traditional medicine, mainly for digestive and inflammatory complaints. Most of its proposed health benefits come from laboratory and animal studies, and strong human evidence is lacking. Food amounts are generally well tolerated, but talk with your pharmacist or doctor before using concentrated supplements.

Alpinia officinarum · Zingiberaceae · Rhizome (root) · Dried rhizome, powder, capsules, tea, tincture, essential oil, culinary spice

An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Alpinia is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Alpinia record says about it on its own.

Alpinia: dosing

There is no standardized, well-established medicinal dose for Alpinia. Amounts used in traditional medicine and supplements vary widely depending on the form, whether it is a tea, powder, capsule, or tincture. The safest approach is to follow the directions on the product label and not exceed the recommended amount. About Chloroprocaine

What Is Chloroprocaine Used For?

Brand names: Nesacaine, Nescaine-MPF

Chloroprocaine injection is used to produce local anesthesia — numbing — for a range of medical and surgical procedures. The specific uses depend on the product and concentration.

Nesacaine 1% and 2% (multidose vials with preservative) are approved for infiltration (numbing tissue directly) and peripheral nerve block only — not for epidural use. Nesacaine-MPF 2% and 3% (preservative-free, single-dose vials) are approved for infiltration, peripheral nerve block, and central nerve block, including lumbar and caudal epidural anesthesia. Chloroprocaine hydrochloride injection 2% and 3% (single-dose, preservative-free vials) are similarly approved for infiltration, peripheral and central nerve block, including lumbar and caudal epidural blocks. Iheezo, the ophthalmic gel, is used to numb the surface of the eye before procedures on or near the eye.
