Here's the quick picture with Dexilant (dexlansoprazole) and alpinia. Your PPI works by quieting down the acid pumps in your stomach lining. There are a few scattered reports that alpinia (lesser galangal) might actually nudge stomach acid production up. If that's true, it could work against what your PPI is trying to do, and you might notice your heartburn or reflux symptoms creeping back.

I want to be honest about how shaky this is. It's only theoretical and based on anecdotal evidence, so it's rated minor. Everyday cooking amounts of galangal almost certainly won't matter. Concentrated supplements are the bigger question mark. If you take alpinia regularly and your reflux isn't well controlled, mention it to your pharmacist or doctor before changing anything.

About Dexlansoprazole

What Is Dexlansoprazole Used For?

Brand name: Dexilant Solutab

Dexlansoprazole delayed-release capsules — sold as Dexilant and available as a generic — are used in patients 12 years of age and older to heal erosive esophagitis (EE), which is damage to the esophagus caused by stomach acid. They are also used to keep that damage healed and relieve heartburn over time.

In addition, dexlansoprazole treats heartburn from non-erosive gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) — that is, acid reflux that causes symptoms without visible damage to the esophagus. Both Dexilant and generic dexlansoprazole delayed-release capsules share these same approved uses.
