Magaldrate (Riopan) is a simple antacid. It works right in your stomach by neutralizing acid to ease heartburn and indigestion. So this isn't about your liver breaking the medicine down. The concern here is more direct: there are a few anecdotal reports that alpinia (lesser galangal) may nudge your stomach to make a bit more acid. If that happens, it could partly work against the antacid and leave your heartburn relief feeling a little weaker than usual.

Honestly, this is a minor interaction built on weak evidence. Everyday cooking amounts of galangal are very unlikely to matter. If you're using a concentrated alpinia supplement and notice your Riopan isn't calming things like it should, just check in with your pharmacist or doctor.
