Dexlansoprazole falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2C19 (CYP2C19) SUBSTRATES — the group Adrafinil interacts with.

Theoretically, adrafinil might increase the levels and clinical effects of CYP2C19 substrates.

Here's the simple version. Your body changes adrafinil into modafinil, and modafinil can slow down a liver enzyme called CYP2C19. That same enzyme helps clear dexlansoprazole (Dexilant) out of your system. So in theory, pairing them could let the dexlansoprazole build up a bit higher than usual.

The good news is this is mostly a theoretical concern, based on lab studies rather than real-world reports. Dexlansoprazole is also pretty forgiving, so a modest bump in levels usually isn't dangerous. You might notice mild things like headache, nausea, or diarrhea. I wouldn't lose sleep over it, but since adrafinil is unregulated and hard on the liver, please run this combo by your doctor or pharmacist before mixing them.

Here's the gist for Dexilant. Once your liver turns adrafinil into modafinil, that modafinil can gently speed up a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. Since dexlansoprazole is partly broken down by that same enzyme, in theory your body might clear it a little faster. That could mean it works less well, so you might notice your heartburn or reflux creeping back, more frequent burning, or an upset stomach that wasn't bothering you before.

I want to be honest though, this is a theoretical concern based on how the drugs work, not strong real-world data, and modafinil is only a weak booster of this enzyme. So I wouldn't lose sleep over it. If you're considering adrafinil, please run it by your pharmacist or doctor first, mostly because of its liver risks.

What Is Dexlansoprazole Used For?

Brand name: Dexilant Solutab

Dexlansoprazole delayed-release capsules — sold as Dexilant and available as a generic — are used in patients 12 years of age and older to heal erosive esophagitis (EE), which is damage to the esophagus caused by stomach acid. They are also used to keep that damage healed and relieve heartburn over time.

In addition, dexlansoprazole treats heartburn from non-erosive gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) — that is, acid reflux that causes symptoms without visible damage to the esophagus. Both Dexilant and generic dexlansoprazole delayed-release capsules share these same approved uses.
