Sofosbuvir, Velpatasvir, Voxilaprevir falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group American Elder interacts with.

Theoretically, taking American elder might increase levels of CYP3A4 substrates.

Here's the gist if you're taking Vosevi (sofosbuvir, velpatasvir, voxilaprevir) for hepatitis C. In lab dish studies only, American elder appeared to slow down an enzyme called CYP3A4, which helps your body clear certain medicines. Voxilaprevir in particular is partly handled by that enzyme, so in theory elder could let a bit more of it build up. If that happened, you might notice more of the usual side effects, like nausea, headache, tiredness, or diarrhea.

I want to be honest though: this is based on test-tube research, not real people, so it's quite uncertain. Cooked culinary amounts of berries are unlikely to be a problem, but concentrated supplements are less predictable. Since finishing your full course matters for a cure, just run any elderberry product by your pharmacist or doctor first.

What Is Sofosbuvir, Velpatasvir, and Voxilaprevir Used For?

Brand name: Vosevi

Vosevi is used to treat chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection in adults who do not have cirrhosis or who have compensated cirrhosis (mild liver scarring that is still functioning). It is specifically for people who have already been treated with an HCV regimen before and need a different option.

Vosevi is approved for adults with HCV genotype 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6 who previously took a medicine that included an NS5A inhibitor. It is also approved for adults with genotype 1a or 3 who previously took sofosbuvir without an NS5A inhibitor.
