Chlorpheniramine Polistirex, Codeine Polistirex falls under CODEINE — the group Anise interacts with.

Theoretically, anise oil might increase the effects and adverse effects of codeine.
Animal research shows that anise oil increases the analgesic effects of codeine, possibly by inducing its phase I metabolism and increasing conversion to morphine. Whether this interaction occurs in humans is unclear.

Here's the thing about the codeine in Tuzistra XR: it's actually a prodrug. Your liver has to convert it into morphine before it does much of anything for pain or coughing. Animal studies hint that anise oil might speed up that conversion, meaning more morphine ends up in your system than expected.

If that held true in people, you could see codeine's effects pile up: more drowsiness, dizziness, constipation, and in larger amounts, slowed breathing. But I want to be honest with you, this is theoretical and based only on animal research, so we don't know if it happens in humans at all. A licorice-flavored tea or a sprinkle of anise seed is very unlikely to matter. Concentrated anise oil supplements are the bigger question mark. Run it by your pharmacist or doctor to be safe.
