Anise + Glyburide
Glyburide brand names: Diabeta, Micronase, Glynase, Glycron, Micronized, and others.
Anise has a moderate interaction with Glyburide. Theoretically, anise seed might increase the risk of hypoglycemia when taken with antidiabetes drugs.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
ANTIDIABETES DRUGS
Why this applies to Glyburide
Glyburide falls under ANTIDIABETES DRUGS — the group Anise interacts with.
A small clinical study shows that anise seed powder decreases fasting blood glucose levels by 36% when compared to baseline.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the thing to keep in mind with glyburide: its whole job is to push your blood sugar down by getting your pancreas to release more insulin. Anise seed, in concentrated supplement amounts, may nudge blood sugar lower too. Stack the two together and those effects can add up, which means a higher chance of your sugar dropping too far (hypoglycemia).
Watch for the usual low-sugar warning signs: shakiness, sweating, dizziness, a racing heart, confusion, or sudden hunger. This is based on one small study and is still fairly theoretical, so don't panic. A little anise as a tea or seasoning is unlikely to matter much, but a daily concentrated supplement is worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before you start.

About Anise
What is Anise?
- Digestive upset and bloating
- Cough and respiratory complaints
- Sore throat
- Menstrual discomfort
- Flavoring agent
Anise is a fragrant, licorice-flavored seed used for centuries to ease digestion and soothe coughs. Most of its health claims are based on tradition and small or laboratory studies rather than strong human research, so evidence is limited. It is generally safe as a food and tea for most adults, but the concentrated essential oil should be used carefully and avoided in pregnancy.

Glyburide Is Linked to Lower Levels of One Nutrient
Natural Medicines records Glyburide as a medicine that can lower these. This is not an interaction with Anise — it is a separate effect of the medicine, and it is a reason some people are advised to supplement rather than to avoid one:
