Anise + Fluoxetine
Fluoxetine brand names: Prozac, Sarafem.
Anise has a moderate interaction with Fluoxetine. Theoretically, anise oil might decrease the efficacy of fluoxetine.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
FLUOXETINE (Prozac)
Animal research shows that taking anise oil with fluoxetine reduces the antidepressant effects of fluoxetine, possibly by promoting its breakdown by cytochrome P450 2D6. Whether this interaction occurs in humans is unclear.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist with Prozac (fluoxetine) and anise. In animal studies, anise oil seemed to speed up how the body breaks down fluoxetine (through a liver enzyme called CYP2D6), which made the antidepressant work a little less well. So the concern is that concentrated anise could weaken fluoxetine's benefit, not make it stronger. Fluoxetine itself is the active drug, so faster breakdown means less effect, things like your mood symptoms, anxiety, or OCD thoughts not staying as well controlled.
The big caveat: this is only lab and animal data, and we honestly don't know if it happens in people. A little anise tea or seasoning in food is very unlikely to matter. If you're using strong anise essential oil regularly, just mention it to your pharmacist or doctor before changing anything.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Fluoxetine page
“Grapefruit is the surprise at the top of fluoxetine's (Prozac) supplement list. In large amounts it can stretch the QT interval, the electrical pause between heartbeats, and fluoxetine, a widely prescribed antidepressant, can do the same, raising the odds of a dangerous rhythm.”

About Anise
What is Anise?
- Digestive upset and bloating
- Cough and respiratory complaints
- Sore throat
- Menstrual discomfort
- Flavoring agent
Anise is a fragrant, licorice-flavored seed used for centuries to ease digestion and soothe coughs. Most of its health claims are based on tradition and small or laboratory studies rather than strong human research, so evidence is limited. It is generally safe as a food and tea for most adults, but the concentrated essential oil should be used carefully and avoided in pregnancy.
About Fluoxetine
What Is Fluoxetine Used For?
Brand names: Prozac, Sarafem
Fluoxetine treats several mental health conditions. Most fluoxetine products are labeled for major depressive disorder (MDD), obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), bulimia nervosa (binge-eating and vomiting behaviors) and panic disorder, with or without agoraphobia (fear of open or crowded places).
Some uses are product-specific. Fluoxetine delayed-release capsules are labeled only for major depressive disorder. Prozac capsules and fluoxetine capsules are also labeled to be used together with olanzapine for depressive episodes linked to Bipolar I Disorder and for treatment resistant depression. Fluoxetine alone is not approved for those two uses.

Fluoxetine Is Linked to Lower Levels of One Nutrient
Natural Medicines records Fluoxetine as a medicine that can lower these. This is not an interaction with Anise — it is a separate effect of the medicine, and it is a reason some people are advised to supplement rather than to avoid one:
