Auvelity combines two active medicines, bupropion and dextromethorphan, that work together to treat depression. Both rely partly on your liver's CYP3A4 pathway. The concern here is that astaxanthin might gently speed up that pathway, which could clear these drugs a little faster and make them slightly less effective. In real life, that might look like your depression symptoms not being as well controlled.

Here's the important part: this is only a theoretical worry seen in lab and cell studies, not in actual people. At typical supplement doses it may not matter much at all. Still, since this combo is meant to keep your mood steady, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before adding astaxanthin.

Auvelity combines bupropion and dextromethorphan. In this combo, the bupropion actually does double duty: besides being an antidepressant, it slows down an enzyme so your body keeps more of the dextromethorphan around. The piece that matters here is that bupropion is partly cleared by an enzyme called CYP2B6. In lab dishes, astaxanthin appears to speed that enzyme up, which could in theory lower bupropion levels and make it work a little less well, meaning your mood symptoms might not be as well controlled.

Here's the reassuring part: this comes only from test-tube and cell studies, not from people, so it may not happen in real life at all. I wouldn't lose sleep over it, but do mention the astaxanthin to your pharmacist or prescriber so they can keep an eye on how you're feeling.
