Capmatinib Hydrochloride falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Astaxanthin interacts with.

Theoretically, astaxanthin may decrease levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4.
In vitro research shows that astaxanthin induces CYP3A4 enzyme activity in human hepatocytes. This effect has not been reported in humans.

Here's the concern with pairing astaxanthin and capmatinib (Tabrecta). Your body clears capmatinib using a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. In lab dish studies, astaxanthin seems to speed up that enzyme. If that happened in real life, your body could break down capmatinib a bit faster, leaving less of it to fight your lung cancer. For a cancer medicine, you really want steady, reliable levels, so anything that lowers them is worth taking seriously.

The good news: this is only theoretical right now, seen in lab cells and never confirmed in actual people. Capmatinib works on its own (it isn't a prodrug), so the direction is simply less effect, not more side effects. Still, please loop in your oncology team or pharmacist before adding astaxanthin.

Tabrecta (capmatinib) is used to treat adults with metastatic non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) — lung cancer that has spread to other parts of the body. It is only for patients whose tumors have a specific genetic change called a MET exon 14 skipping mutation, which must be confirmed by an FDA-approved test before starting treatment.
