Mometasone falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Astaxanthin interacts with.

Theoretically, astaxanthin may decrease levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4.
In vitro research shows that astaxanthin induces CYP3A4 enzyme activity in human hepatocytes. This effect has not been reported in humans.

Here's the gist for mometasone (whether you're using the Elocon cream or the Asmanex inhaler). The idea on file is that astaxanthin might speed up a liver enzyme called CYP3A4, which is one of the pathways that breaks down mometasone. If that happened, your body could clear the medicine a little faster, which in theory could mean a bit less relief from things like redness, itching, swelling, or asthma control.

That said, I want to be honest about the strength of this. This effect was only seen in lab dishes and cells, not in real people, so it's very much theoretical. For topical mometasone especially, very little gets into your bloodstream anyway. I wouldn't lose sleep over it, but it's worth a quick mention to your pharmacist or doctor.

Mometasone Furoate topical products are used to relieve the inflammation and itching (pruritus) that come with corticosteroid-responsive dermatoses — a broad category of skin conditions that respond to steroid treatment.

Mometasone Furoate Topical Solution (Lotion) is specifically indicated for these skin conditions in patients 12 years of age and older. Mometasone Furoate cream may be used in adults and in children 2 years of age and older.
