Here's the idea behind this pairing. Astragalus is thought to gently rev up the immune system, while Xolair (omalizumab) works in the opposite direction, calming the immune-driven allergic response that triggers asthma flares, nasal polyps, or chronic hives. On paper, that means astragalus could work against what Xolair is trying to do, possibly leaving your symptoms (more wheezing, shortness of breath, or itchy hives) less well controlled.

I want to be honest with you, though: this concern comes only from lab and animal studies, not from real patients, so it's theoretical. We don't have proof it actually happens in people. Still, since Xolair is a serious medication for a serious condition, it's worth a quick chat with your doctor or pharmacist before adding astragalus.

Astragalus is a root used for centuries in traditional Chinese medicine, mainly to support the immune system and help the body cope with stress. While early studies are interesting, strong human evidence for most uses is still lacking. It is generally well tolerated by healthy adults for short-term use, but should be avoided during pregnancy and breastfeeding due to limited safety data.

About Omalizumab Injection

What Is Omalizumab Injection Used For?

Brand name: Xolair

Xolair is used for several allergy-driven conditions. It treats moderate to severe persistent asthma in adults and children 6 and older whose symptoms aren't controlled by inhaled corticosteroids alone and who test positive for a perennial allergen (like dust mites or pet dander). It also treats chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (ongoing sinus inflammation with polyp growth) in adults 18 and older when nasal corticosteroids haven't worked well enough.

Xolair is approved to help reduce allergic reactions — including anaphylaxis (severe, life-threatening allergic reactions) — from accidental food exposures in adults and children as young as 1 year old with IgE-mediated food allergy. It is always used alongside food allergen avoidance, not as a substitute. Finally, Xolair treats chronic spontaneous urticaria (CSU — ongoing hives with no known cause) in adults and adolescents 12 and older who still have symptoms despite taking antihistamines. It is not for emergency treatment of allergic reactions and not for other forms of hives.
