Here's the idea behind this pairing. Lab and animal studies hint that andrographis may gently rev up the immune system, while Xolair (omalizumab) is an injected antibody that works by calming down part of your immune response (it targets IgE) to ease allergic asthma, nasal polyps, or chronic hives. So in theory, an immune-boosting herb could tug in the opposite direction and slightly blunt the relief you're getting from your shots.

I want to be honest about the strength of this, though. This concern comes only from test-tube and animal research, not from people taking both together, so it's more of a caution than a proven problem. If you notice your asthma or hives creeping back, that's worth mentioning. Before adding andrographis, just run it by your pharmacist or doctor.

Andrographis is a bitter Asian herb traditionally used for colds, flu, and infections, and some studies suggest it may ease cold symptoms and shorten how long they last. The evidence is limited and the quality of studies varies, so it should not replace standard care. Talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using it, and avoid it during pregnancy.

About Omalizumab Injection

What Is Omalizumab Injection Used For?

Brand name: Xolair

Xolair is used for several allergy-driven conditions. It treats moderate to severe persistent asthma in adults and children 6 and older whose symptoms aren't controlled by inhaled corticosteroids alone and who test positive for a perennial allergen (like dust mites or pet dander). It also treats chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (ongoing sinus inflammation with polyp growth) in adults 18 and older when nasal corticosteroids haven't worked well enough.

Xolair is approved to help reduce allergic reactions — including anaphylaxis (severe, life-threatening allergic reactions) — from accidental food exposures in adults and children as young as 1 year old with IgE-mediated food allergy. It is always used alongside food allergen avoidance, not as a substitute. Finally, Xolair treats chronic spontaneous urticaria (CSU — ongoing hives with no known cause) in adults and adolescents 12 and older who still have symptoms despite taking antihistamines. It is not for emergency treatment of allergic reactions and not for other forms of hives.
