Here's the thinking behind this one. Some beta-glucans, mostly the ones from yeast and mushrooms, may gently nudge the immune system to be more active. Xolair (omalizumab) works in the opposite direction by calming down part of your immune response, specifically the IgE antibodies that drive allergic asthma and hives. So in theory, an immune-revving supplement could work against what Xolair is trying to do, which might mean less symptom control over time.

But here's the honest part: this concern comes only from lab and test-tube research, not from real patients taking both. It's very much a theoretical worry. The oat and barley beta-glucans used for cholesterol act mainly as gut fiber and are less likely to matter here. Still, before adding any beta-glucan product, run it by your pharmacist or doctor first.

Beta-glucans are natural fibers found in oats, barley, mushrooms, and yeast. The strongest evidence supports the oat and barley types for modestly lowering cholesterol and blood sugar, while immune-related claims from yeast and mushroom sources are far less proven. They are generally well tolerated, but check with your pharmacist before starting any supplement.

About Omalizumab Injection

What Is Omalizumab Injection Used For?

Brand name: Xolair

Xolair is used for several allergy-driven conditions. It treats moderate to severe persistent asthma in adults and children 6 and older whose symptoms aren't controlled by inhaled corticosteroids alone and who test positive for a perennial allergen (like dust mites or pet dander). It also treats chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (ongoing sinus inflammation with polyp growth) in adults 18 and older when nasal corticosteroids haven't worked well enough.

Xolair is approved to help reduce allergic reactions — including anaphylaxis (severe, life-threatening allergic reactions) — from accidental food exposures in adults and children as young as 1 year old with IgE-mediated food allergy. It is always used alongside food allergen avoidance, not as a substitute. Finally, Xolair treats chronic spontaneous urticaria (CSU — ongoing hives with no known cause) in adults and adolescents 12 and older who still have symptoms despite taking antihistamines. It is not for emergency treatment of allergic reactions and not for other forms of hives.
