Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
IMMUNOSUPPRESSANTS
Why this applies to Hydrocortisone
Hydrocortisone falls under IMMUNOSUPPRESSANTS — the group Andrographis interacts with.
Laboratory research suggests that andrographolide has immunostimulant activity.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the idea behind this pairing. When you take hydrocortisone for something like a flare of arthritis, severe allergies, or an autoimmune condition, you're using it to calm down an overactive immune system. Andrographis seems to do the opposite in lab studies, where its andrographolide compounds appear to rev up immune activity. So in theory, the herb could push against what your hydrocortisone is trying to accomplish, possibly making it work a little less well.
I want to be honest about the strength of this, though. This concern comes only from test tube and animal research, not from people, so we really don't know if it matters in real life. Still, if you rely on hydrocortisone to control a serious condition, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before adding andrographis.

About Andrographis
What is Andrographis?
- Common cold and flu symptoms
- Upper respiratory infections
- Sore throat
- Fever
- Immune support
- Digestive complaints
Andrographis is a bitter Asian herb traditionally used for colds, flu, and infections, and some studies suggest it may ease cold symptoms and shorten how long they last. The evidence is limited and the quality of studies varies, so it should not replace standard care. Talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using it, and avoid it during pregnancy.
