Here's the simple version: spironolactone already works to lower your blood pressure and remove extra fluid. The concern with andrographis is that it may have its own mild blood-pressure-lowering effect, so stacking the two together could in theory push your pressure down a little too far.

If that happened, you might feel lightheaded, dizzy, or wobbly when you stand up quickly. I want to be honest about the evidence, though: this is theoretical and comes only from animal studies, so it's far from a sure thing. Spironolactone also tends to raise potassium, which is a separate thing to keep an eye on. Don't change anything on your own. Just give your pharmacist or doctor a heads-up before adding andrographis so they can check in.

About Spironolactone

What Is Spironolactone Used For?

Brand names: Aldactone, Spiroton, Carospir

Spironolactone tablets (including Aldactone) are used to treat moderate-to-severe heart failure, high blood pressure, and fluid retention (edema) caused by liver cirrhosis or nephrotic syndrome. They are also used to diagnose and manage primary hyperaldosteronism — a condition where the adrenal glands produce too much of the hormone aldosterone.

Spironolactone oral suspension shares several of these uses — heart failure, high blood pressure, and edema from liver cirrhosis — but is not the same as Aldactone and is not therapeutically interchangeable with it. Your prescriber will choose the right form for your situation.
