Here's the basic idea with prednisolone and astragalus. Prednisolone is a corticosteroid that's often used to calm down or quiet the immune system, whether that's for inflammation, certain autoimmune conditions, or to help prevent transplant rejection. Astragalus, on the other hand, is thought to do the opposite and gently stimulate the immune system.

So in theory, taking astragalus could work against what prednisolone is trying to do, possibly making it less effective for keeping your immune system in check. I want to be honest though: this concern comes from lab and animal studies, not from solid human research, so it's more of a caution than a proven problem. If you're on prednisolone for something serious like preventing transplant rejection, please check with your doctor or pharmacist before adding astragalus.

Prednisolone is prescribed for many different conditions where inflammation or an overactive immune system is causing harm. These range from severe allergic reactions and asthma to certain skin diseases, blood disorders, eye problems, and some cancers.

It is also used to support the body when the adrenal glands aren't making enough of their own steroids, and to manage flares of conditions like ulcerative colitis, multiple sclerosis, and nephrotic syndrome (a kidney condition causing protein loss in the urine).
