Here's the thing to know about this pairing: metronidazole doesn't mix well with alcohol, and Bach Flower Remedies are usually preserved in brandy. When you drink alcohol while taking metronidazole, it can trigger what we call a disulfiram-like reaction. That can mean flushing, a pounding headache, nausea, vomiting, stomach cramps, and a fast or racing heartbeat. Not fun.

Now, a single drop or two carries only a tiny bit of alcohol, so the real-world risk is usually small. Still, why chance feeling miserable? It's safest to hold off on alcohol-based remedies while you're on metronidazole and for a few days after you finish. There are alcohol-free Bach options too. Check with your pharmacist or doctor if you're unsure.

What Is Metronidazole Used For?

Brand names: Flagyl, Protostat, Metronidazole, Nidazol, Trikacide, MetroGel, Flagyl IV, Metronidazole Redi-Infusion, Flagyl IV RTU, Metro IV, Anabact, Metrosa, Metrotop, Noritate, Rozex Cream, Rozex Gel, Zyomet, Likmez

Metronidazole treats infections caused by certain parasites and by bacteria that grow without oxygen (anaerobic bacteria). Which use applies depends on the product.

Oral products (tablets, capsules and Likmez suspension) are used for trichomoniasis, a sexually transmitted infection. Likmez is also used for amebiasis and for anaerobic bacterial infections in adults. Metronidazole injection treats serious anaerobic infections. Vaginal gels treat bacterial vaginosis. Topical cream and lotion treat rosacea.
