Glutethimide is an older sedative-hypnotic, meaning its whole job is to calm the brain and bring on sleep. The concern here is simple addition: berberine has shown mild sedative effects in animal studies, so layering it on top of an already strong sleep medicine could deepen the drowsiness. You might notice more grogginess, heavier sedation, dizziness, or feeling unsteady on your feet than usual.

I want to be straight with you about the evidence. This is theoretical, based only on lab and animal data, not human reports, so it is far from certain. Still, because Glutethimide is potent and not commonly used today, I would not pair it with berberine without first checking with your pharmacist or prescriber.
