Here's the gist for clobazam (Onfi, Sympazan): this is a benzodiazepine that already calms brain activity, so it tends to make people drowsy, dizzy, or unsteady. The concern with berberine is that some animal studies hint it may have its own mild calming, sedative effect. If that holds true in people, stacking it on top of clobazam could add to the sleepiness or slowed reactions.

I want to be honest about the strength here: this is theoretical, based only on lab and animal research, not human studies. So it's a reason to be a little cautious, not to panic. If you're considering berberine, run it by your pharmacist or neurologist first, and watch for extra drowsiness if you do start it. Please don't change your clobazam on your own.

Clobazam is used as an add-on (adjunctive) treatment for seizures linked to Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome (LGS), a severe form of childhood-onset epilepsy. It is approved for patients 2 years of age and older.

This indication applies to all available forms: Sympazan (dissolving oral film), Onfi (tablets and oral suspension), and generic clobazam tablets and oral suspension.
