Black Pepper + Ropinirole
Ropinirole brand names: Requip, Adartrel.
Black Pepper has a minor interaction with Ropinirole. Theoretically, black pepper might decrease levels and clinical effects of drugs metabolized by CYP1A2.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES
Why this applies to Ropinirole
Ropinirole falls under CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES — the group Black Pepper interacts with.
In vitro research suggests that black pepper induces CYP1A2. This has not been reported in humans.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP1A2 to clear ropinirole. The lab note we have suggests that piperine, the active compound in black pepper, may speed up that enzyme. If it did, your system could break ropinirole down a bit faster, leaving less of it around. In real terms, that might mean Parkinson's symptoms (shaking, stiffness, slow movement) or restless legs creeping back if the medicine weren't working as well.
Here's the reassuring part: this is only seen in test-tube research and has never been confirmed in people. Everyday seasoning on your food is very unlikely to matter. If you take a concentrated piperine supplement, just mention it to your pharmacist or doctor before changing anything.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Ropinirole page
“Activated charcoal deserves the closest look on this page. It is the only one of the 101 entries rated major against ropinirole (Requip, Adartrel), because charcoal can bind the drug in the gut and shrink the amount that actually reaches you, and for someone relying on ropinirole for Parkinson's disease or restless legs, that can mean…”

About Black Pepper
What is Black Pepper?
- Flavoring and culinary use
- Digestive complaints like bloating and indigestion
- Boosting absorption of other supplements
- Antioxidant and anti-inflammatory support
- Cold and congestion remedies
Black pepper is a common kitchen spice that is generally safe in the amounts used in food. Its extract, piperine, is mostly added to supplements to help the body absorb other ingredients (like curcumin from turmeric). Strong human evidence for black pepper treating specific health conditions is limited, so use supplement-strength products with care and check with your pharmacist.
About Ropinirole
