Here's the honest picture with Synribo (omacetaxine) and black seed. Omacetaxine is a strong chemotherapy drug for CML that purposely slows down cancer cell growth, and it also dampens your immune system as part of how it works. The concern on file is theoretical: in lab dishes and animal studies, black seed seems to nudge the immune system, sometimes turning it up and sometimes turning it down. So we honestly can't predict which way it would push things in a person on this medicine.

Because this is only early lab and animal evidence (not human studies), I wouldn't panic. But omacetaxine is serious medicine, and your blood counts and infection risk are already being watched closely. I'd skip concentrated black seed supplements during treatment unless your oncology team says it's fine. Please check with your oncologist or pharmacist first.

What Is Omacetaxine Injection Used For?

Brand name: Synribo

  • Omacetaxine injection is used to treat adults with chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML; a type of cancer of the white blood cells) who have already been treated with at least two other medications for CML and can no longer benefit from these medications or cannot take these medications due to side effects. Omacetaxine injection is in a class of medications called protein synthesis inhibitors. It works by slowing the growth of cancer cells.
