Interferon alfa-2a falls under HEPATOTOXIC DRUGS — the group Boldo interacts with.

Theoretically, taking boldo with hepatotoxic drugs might increase the risk of hepatic injury and disease.
Boldo leaf contains ascaridole, a known liver toxin. Many cases of hepatotoxicity, including elevated liver transaminase levels and jaundice, have been reported in patients taking boldo.

Here's the concern with pairing Roferon-A (interferon alfa-2a) and boldo: this isn't a case where one speeds up or slows down the other in your liver. Instead, both can be hard on the liver on their own. Interferon alfa-2a is already well known for raising liver enzymes and, less often, causing more serious liver trouble. Boldo leaf contains ascaridole, a compound that has been linked to liver injury and jaundice in some people.

Stacking two liver stressors together could add up. The evidence here is mostly anecdotal and theoretical, so I'm not trying to scare you, but with a medicine that already taxes the liver, I'd play it safe. Please check with your doctor or pharmacist before using boldo, and report any yellowing of the skin or eyes, dark urine, or unusual fatigue right away.

Boldo is a South American shrub whose leaves are traditionally used for digestive and gallbladder complaints, but good human evidence is very limited. The leaves and oil contain ascaridole, which can be toxic to the liver, so only ascaridole-free products should be used and only for short periods. Talk to your pharmacist or doctor before trying it, and avoid it during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
