Buteyko Breathing Technique + Levetiracetam
Levetiracetam brand names: Keppra, Elepsia XR, Spritam.
We found no known interaction between Buteyko Breathing Technique and Levetiracetam in our sources. Absence of a documented interaction is not the same as proven safety, and does not guarantee one does not exist. Do not start, stop, or change a medication or supplement based on this page; confirm with your pharmacist or doctor first.
Buteyko Breathing Technique and Levetiracetam
We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.
No Known Interaction Found
We did not find a documented interaction between Levetiracetam and Buteyko Breathing Technique in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — research on Buteyko Breathing Technique alongside specific medications may be limited.
Worth understanding: our licensed dataset holds no drug-interaction record for Buteyko Breathing Technique at all — not against Levetiracetam, and not against any other medication we track. This verdict therefore rests on the absence of any recorded data, not on research that looked at this combination and found nothing. We cannot rule an interaction out.
Buteyko Breathing Technique is a practice rather than something you take. Ask your care team whether the type and intensity you plan to practice are appropriate for your health and treatment. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.
Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Levetiracetam page
“I would read this page carefully rather than casually. Levetiracetam (Keppra, Spritam) controls seizures, and both hazards on this list run through that fact.”

- What “no known interaction” means: no documented interaction in the sources above — not a guarantee of safety. Supplements are studied far less than prescription drugs, so we say exactly what the evidence supports, and nothing more.
About Buteyko Breathing Technique
What is Buteyko Breathing Technique?
- Asthma symptom control
- Reducing reliever inhaler use
- Snoring and mild sleep-disordered breathing
- Anxiety and stress
- Chronic hyperventilation or breathlessness
The Buteyko Breathing Technique is a set of breathing exercises that focus on slow, gentle, nasal breathing and reduced breathing volume. Some studies suggest it may help people with asthma feel they have better symptom control and use their reliever inhaler less, but it does not improve lung function and is not a replacement for prescribed asthma medicine. It is generally low-risk, but you should always continue your usual treatment and check with your doctor before making changes.

An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Buteyko Breathing Technique is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Buteyko Breathing Technique record says about it on its own.
Buteyko Breathing Technique: dosing
There is no standard "dose" for the Buteyko Breathing Technique. Programs usually involve learning a set of exercises and practicing them regularly each day, often over several weeks. The best approach is to learn from a trained Buteyko instructor or a reputable program, and follow their guidance on how often and how long to practice.

About Levetiracetam
What Is Levetiracetam Used For?
Brand names: Keppra, Elepsia XR, Spritam
Levetiracetam is used to treat several types of seizures. It treats partial-onset seizures (seizures that start in one area of the brain) and is used as add-on therapy for myoclonic seizures (sudden, brief muscle jerks) in people with juvenile myoclonic epilepsy aged 12 and older, and for primary generalized tonic-clonic seizures (grand mal seizures) in people with idiopathic generalized epilepsy aged 6 and older.
Age eligibility varies by product. Keppra oral and Roweepra tablets treat partial-onset seizures in patients as young as 1 month. Spritam and levetiracetam tablets for oral suspension treat partial-onset seizures in patients 4 years and older weighing more than 20 kg. Extended-release products — including Elepsia XR, Keppra XR, and Levetiracetam ER — are approved only for partial-onset seizures in patients 12 years and older. Injectable forms are used intravenously when a patient temporarily cannot take oral medication.
