Caffeic Acid + Ranitidine Bismuth Citrate
Ranitidine Bismuth Citrate brand name: Tritec.
Caffeic Acid has a moderate interaction with Ranitidine Bismuth Citrate. Theoretically, caffeic acid might increase the levels and clinical effects of OAT3 substrates.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
ORGANIC ANION TRANSPORTER 3 (OAT3) SUBSTRATES
Why this applies to Ranitidine Bismuth Citrate
Ranitidine Bismuth Citrate falls under ORGANIC ANION TRANSPORTER 3 (OAT3) SUBSTRATES — the group Caffeic Acid interacts with.
In vitro, caffeic acid inhibits OAT3. This drug transport protein is involved in renal tubular uptake of some drugs from the blood and then elimination in the urine. Inhibition of this transporters decreases renal elimination and increases drug levels in the body. Although caffeic acid inhibits OAT3 in vitro, the clinical significance of this in humans is not known.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist with caffeic acid and your ranitidine bismuth citrate. Your kidneys help clear ranitidine out of your body, and they use a little transporter called OAT3 to do part of that work. In a lab dish, caffeic acid slowed that transporter down. If that same thing happened in people, less ranitidine would leave through your urine, so a bit more could hang around in your body.
The honest part: this is only test-tube evidence, so we really don't know if it matters in real life. Even if levels nudged up, ranitidine is generally gentle, with mild things like headache or constipation. Coffee-sized amounts of caffeic acid almost certainly won't matter. If you plan to take a concentrated supplement, just run it by your pharmacist or doctor first.

About Caffeic Acid
What is Caffeic Acid?
- Antioxidant support
- General anti-inflammatory use
- Skin and sun protection (topical)
- Immune support
- Cancer-prevention interest (research stage)
Caffeic acid is a natural plant compound found in coffee, many fruits, vegetables, and herbs, and it is studied mainly for its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Most evidence comes from laboratory and animal research, so its benefits in people are not yet proven. If you want to take it as a supplement, talk with your pharmacist or doctor first.
About Ranitidine
What Is Ranitidine Used For?
Brand name: Tritec
Ranitidine is used to treat several acid-related stomach and esophageal conditions. These include active duodenal ulcers (ulcers in the small intestine) and benign gastric ulcers (stomach ulcers), GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease, or chronic acid reflux), erosive esophagitis (irritation and damage to the esophagus from acid), and pathological hypersecretory conditions — rare disorders where the stomach produces too much acid, such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome and systemic mastocytosis. It is also used as maintenance therapy to keep ulcers and esophagitis from coming back after healing.
Over-the-counter products Acid Reducer and Wal-Zan tablets are specifically labeled to relieve heartburn associated with acid indigestion and sour stomach, and to prevent heartburn brought on by certain foods or beverages.
