ANTICHOLINERGIC DRUGS
Why this applies to Prabotulinumtoxina-Xvfs
Prabotulinumtoxina-Xvfs falls under ANTICHOLINERGIC DRUGS — the group Calabar Bean interacts with.
Physostigmine, a constituent of calabar bean, reverses the effects of belladonna and other drugs with anticholinergic activity.
Interaction has been demonstrated in animal or in lab research but has been shown not to occur in humans..
Here's the gist with Jeuveau (prabotulinumtoxinA): it works by quieting the nerve signal that tells your forehead muscles to contract, which is what softens those frown lines. It does this by blocking the release of a messenger called acetylcholine at the muscle.
Calabar bean does the opposite. Its active ingredient, physostigmine, makes acetylcholine pile up. In theory, that extra signaling could push against what Jeuveau is doing and weaken or shorten your cosmetic results. I want to be honest though: this is a theoretical concern based on how these things work, not something well documented with Jeuveau, and it's rated minor and unlikely. Far more important, Calabar bean is genuinely poisonous and not safe to take. Please skip it and check with your provider.
