Here's the simple version. Calumba is a bitter herb that may nudge your stomach to make a little more acid. Aluminum hydroxide (like Amphojel or some Gaviscon products) works by neutralizing stomach acid to calm heartburn, sour stomach, and ulcer pain. So in theory, if calumba bumps up acid production, it could partly work against your antacid and leave you with less relief than you expected.

I want to be honest about how soft this evidence is. This is based on old anecdotal reports, not solid studies, and it's rated a minor concern. Most people likely won't notice much. If your heartburn isn't easing up the way it should, mention the calumba to your pharmacist or doctor before changing anything.
