Here's the simple version. Calumba is a bitter root that was traditionally used to stimulate stomach acid. Lansoprazole works in the opposite direction, lowering acid to calm heartburn and let your esophagus or an ulcer heal. So the theoretical concern is that calumba could work against what Prevacid is trying to do, leaving you with a bit more breakthrough heartburn, burning, or stomach discomfort.

That said, this is a very weak, theoretical worry based only on scattered anecdotal reports, not solid studies. It's rated minor for good reason. Calumba doesn't change how lansoprazole is processed in your body, so this isn't a dangerous combo. Still, if your reflux symptoms creep back while taking it, mention it to your pharmacist or doctor before adjusting anything.

What Is Lansoprazole Used For?

Brand name: Prevacid

Lansoprazole is prescribed for a range of conditions where excess stomach acid is the problem. It treats active stomach and duodenal ulcers (sores in the stomach or upper small intestine), helps heal ulcers caused by NSAID pain relievers, and can reduce the risk of those ulcers coming back.

It's also used for gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), erosive esophagitis (acid damage to the esophagus), and rare conditions where the stomach makes far too much acid — like Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. When combined with antibiotics, it helps wipe out H. pylori bacteria that cause recurring ulcers.
