Here's the thing to keep in mind with this combination product. Part of what your medicine does is the aluminum and magnesium hydroxide, which act as antacids to soothe your stomach and neutralize acid. Calumba is a bitter herb that, by design, may actually nudge your stomach to make more acid. So in theory it could work against the antacid part, meaning you might still feel that burning or upset stomach the medicine is supposed to calm.

I want to be honest about the evidence here. This is based only on scattered, anecdotal reports, so it's a mild and uncertain concern, not something dramatic. It won't change how the aspirin or codeine work. If you're using calumba regularly, just mention it to your pharmacist before combining them.
