Here's the simple version. Calumba is a bitter root that may nudge your stomach to make a bit more acid. Since rabeprazole (Aciphex) works by turning acid production down to ease your heartburn and let your esophagus heal, the worry is that calumba could push in the opposite direction and slightly blunt how well your medicine controls symptoms.

I want to be honest about how thin this is. The concern is theoretical and based only on scattered anecdotal reports, and it's rated a minor interaction. Most people won't notice anything. Still, if you add calumba and find your reflux or burning creeping back, that's worth mentioning. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before starting it, just so we're on the same page.

Modern scientific evidence for these uses is very limited, and its safety has not been well studied, so it should be used cautiously and avoided during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

What Is Rabeprazole Used For?

Brand names: Aciphex, Aciphex Sprinkle

Rabeprazole delayed-release tablets treat a range of acid-related conditions in adults, including healing and maintenance of erosive or ulcerative GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease), symptomatic GERD, duodenal ulcers, and pathological hypersecretory conditions such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. They are also used alongside antibiotics (amoxicillin and clarithromycin) to eradicate H. pylori bacteria and reduce the risk of duodenal ulcer coming back.

In adolescents 12 years and older, rabeprazole delayed-release tablets are approved for short-term treatment of symptomatic GERD. Both AcipHex and Rabeprazole Sodium delayed-release tablets share this indication set for adults and adolescents 12 and older.
