Theoretically, Canadian fleabane might cause additive effects and side effects when used with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs. Canadian fleabane has been shown to inhibit platelet aggregation in vitro.
Some anticoagulant/antiplatelet drugs include aspirin, clopidogrel (Plavix), dalteparin (Fragmin), enoxaparin (Lovenox), heparin, ticlopidine (Ticlid), warfarin (Coumadin), and others.

Here's the thing to keep in mind with Fondaparinux (Arixtra): it's already a powerful blood thinner that blocks part of your clotting cascade. Canadian Fleabane, in lab studies, has been shown to slow down platelets (the tiny cells that help blood clot). So in theory, pairing the two could add up and make your blood a little too slow to clot.

What might that look like in real life? Easier bruising, nosebleeds that take a while to stop, bleeding gums, or in rarer cases more serious bleeding. I want to be honest with you though: this concern is theoretical and based on lab work, not actual human studies, so we don't really know how much it matters. Since fondaparinux is an injectable medicine your care team manages closely, please run any Canadian Fleabane use by your doctor or pharmacist first.

About Fondaparinux Injection

What Is Fondaparinux Injection Used For?

Brand name: Arixtra

Fondaparinux sodium injection is used to prevent deep vein thrombosis (DVT) — blood clots in the legs — in adults having hip fracture surgery, hip replacement surgery, knee replacement surgery, or abdominal surgery. For hip fracture patients, an extended course of prevention is also recommended after the initial treatment period.

It is also used to treat acute DVT and acute pulmonary embolism (PE — a blood clot in the lungs) in adults, given alongside warfarin. In children aged 1 year and older who weigh at least 10 kg, fondaparinux sodium injection is approved to treat venous thromboembolism (VTE — blood clots in the veins).
