Nusinersen Sodium falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS — the group Canadian Fleabane interacts with.

Theoretically, Canadian fleabane might cause additive effects and side effects when used with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs. Canadian fleabane has been shown to inhibit platelet aggregation in vitro.
Some anticoagulant/antiplatelet drugs include aspirin, clopidogrel (Plavix), dalteparin (Fragmin), enoxaparin (Lovenox), heparin, ticlopidine (Ticlid), warfarin (Coumadin), and others.

Here's the thing about Spinraza (nusinersen): it's given as an injection into the fluid around your spinal cord (intrathecally), and it works at the genetic level to boost a protein your nerves and muscles need. It isn't cleared by the usual liver enzymes the way many pills are, and our database doesn't flag a direct chemical clash between Canadian fleabane and nusinersen itself.

The real concern is more practical. Canadian fleabane has shown in lab dishes (not in people) that it may slightly slow platelets, the cells that help your blood clot. Because Spinraza requires a spinal tap (lumbar puncture), anything that thins the blood even a little could, in theory, raise the risk of bruising or bleeding around that procedure. This is theoretical and unproven, so don't panic, but do mention any fleabane use to the team handling your injections.

Spinraza (nusinersen) is used to treat spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) — a genetic disease that causes progressive muscle weakness by reducing the body's ability to make a protein called SMN (survival motor neuron). Spinraza is approved for pediatric and adult patients with SMA.

Spinraza is given by intrathecal injection — directly into the fluid surrounding the spinal cord — so the medicine can reach the central nervous system where it's needed most.
