Insulin (Bovine) falls under ANTIDIABETES DRUGS — the group Carqueja interacts with.

Theoretically, carqueja might lower blood glucose levels and might have additive effects when used with antidiabetes drugs. This might increase the risk of hypoglycemia in some patients. Monitor blood glucose levels closely. Some antidiabetes drugs include glimepiride (Amaryl), glyburide (DiaBeta, Glynase PresTab, Micronase), insulin, metformin (Glucophage), pioglitazone (Actos), rosiglitazone (Avandia), and others.

Here's the gist: bovine insulin already works hard to bring your blood sugar down. Carqueja, a bitter South American herb, may have its own mild blood-sugar-lowering effect based on lab and animal studies. Put the two together and the worry is simple math, their effects could add up and push your glucose lower than you intended.

If that happens, you might notice signs of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia): shakiness, sweating, a racing heart, confusion, or feeling lightheaded. I want to be honest though, this is mostly theoretical and the human evidence is thin. Culinary tea amounts are less likely to matter than concentrated supplement doses. Don't change your insulin on your own. Check your sugars a bit more often if you add carqueja, and loop in your pharmacist or doctor first.
