Selumetinib Sulfate falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS — the group Carrageenan interacts with.

I want to be straight with you here: this particular interaction note was written for blood thinners and antiplatelet drugs, not really for Selumetinib (Koselugo). Selumetinib is a kinase inhibitor used for NF1 tumors, and it isn't a typical anticoagulant. So the bleeding concern listed doesn't map neatly onto it.

The carrageenan piece is also very soft evidence. It comes from lab studies suggesting carrageenan might slow clotting, but this has never been shown in people. Everyday food amounts (in puddings, dairy, plant milks) are very unlikely to matter. To be safe, since Selumetinib can sometimes affect blood counts and you may be on other meds, just run any concentrated carrageenan supplement past your pharmacist or oncology team first.

What Is Selumetinib Used For?

Brand name: Koselugo

Koselugo (selumetinib) is approved for adults and children 1 year of age and older who have neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) — a genetic condition that causes tumors to grow on nerve tissue — when they also have symptomatic, inoperable plexiform neurofibromas (large, deep nerve tumors that cannot be surgically removed and are causing problems).

Both the Koselugo capsule and Koselugo oral granule formulations are approved for this use. The oral granule form is intended for patients who have difficulty swallowing whole capsules.
