Cassia Cinnamon + Amiodarone
Amiodarone brand names: Pacerone, Cordarone.
Cassia Cinnamon has a moderate interaction with Amiodarone. Theoretically, large doses of cassia cinnamon might cause additive effects when used with hepatotoxic drugs.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
HEPATOTOXIC DRUGS
Why this applies to Amiodarone
Amiodarone falls under HEPATOTOXIC DRUGS — the group Cassia Cinnamon interacts with.
There is some concern that ingesting large amounts of cassia cinnamon for an extended duration might cause hepatotoxicity in some people. Cassia cinnamon contains coumarin, which can cause hepatotoxicity in animal models. In humans, very high doses of coumarin from 50-7000 mg/day can result in hepatotoxicity that resolves when coumarin use is discontinued. Lower amounts might also cause liver problems in sensitive people, such as those with liver disease or those taking potentially hepatotoxic agents.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the thing with this pairing: it isn't about cassia cinnamon changing how amiodarone works or how your body clears it. Instead, both can be tough on the liver. Amiodarone is well known for occasionally raising liver enzymes and, rarely, causing more serious liver injury, which is why your doctor checks liver labs while you're on it. Cassia cinnamon naturally contains coumarin, and taking large, concentrated doses for a long time may add extra stress on the liver.
This concern is theoretical, based on how these things behave rather than reported cases, so don't panic. The amount you sprinkle on oatmeal or toast is not a worry. The caution is really about high-dose cinnamon supplements taken daily. If you take amiodarone, check with your pharmacist or doctor before starting one.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Amiodarone page
“Amiodarone (Pacerone, Cordarone) treats dangerous heart rhythms, and this is one supplement list I would genuinely be careful with. Of the 210 ingredients on file, 11 carry a major rating, and the everyday one is grapefruit, which blocks the liver enzyme that clears amiodarone and can push the drug's level higher than intended.”

About Cassia Cinnamon
What is Cassia Cinnamon?
- Blood sugar support
- Digestive upset
- Antioxidant support
- Flavoring and culinary use
- Antimicrobial
Cassia cinnamon is the common, inexpensive cinnamon used in cooking, and it is also taken as a supplement, most often for blood sugar support. The evidence for its health benefits is mixed and far from proven, and because cassia is naturally high in coumarin, taking large amounts regularly may stress the liver. Use food amounts freely, but talk with a pharmacist or doctor before using high-dose supplements.
About Amiodarone
What Is Amiodarone Used For?
Brand names: Pacerone, Cordarone
Amiodarone is prescribed for adults with serious, life-threatening heart-rhythm problems that haven't responded to other medications. Specifically, it's used for two dangerous arrhythmias (abnormal heartbeats): recurrent ventricular fibrillation (a chaotic, potentially fatal heart rhythm) and recurrent ventricular tachycardia (a dangerously fast heart rhythm that causes unstable blood pressure).
Because amiodarone comes with significant risks, doctors reserve it for situations where other options haven't worked or can't be tolerated. It is not a first-choice medication — it's a last-resort tool for serious, life-threatening conditions.
