Cassia Cinnamon + Amoxicillin
Amoxicillin brand names: Amoxil Capsules, Trimox, Wymox, Amix, Amoram, and others.
Cassia Cinnamon has a moderate interaction with Amoxicillin. Theoretically, large doses of cassia cinnamon might cause additive effects when used with hepatotoxic drugs.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
HEPATOTOXIC DRUGS
Why this applies to Amoxicillin
Amoxicillin falls under HEPATOTOXIC DRUGS — the group Cassia Cinnamon interacts with.
There is some concern that ingesting large amounts of cassia cinnamon for an extended duration might cause hepatotoxicity in some people. Cassia cinnamon contains coumarin, which can cause hepatotoxicity in animal models. In humans, very high doses of coumarin from 50-7000 mg/day can result in hepatotoxicity that resolves when coumarin use is discontinued. Lower amounts might also cause liver problems in sensitive people, such as those with liver disease or those taking potentially hepatotoxic agents.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the simple version: this isn't about cassia cinnamon changing how amoxicillin works or how your body clears it. The concern is purely about the liver. Cassia cinnamon naturally contains coumarin, and in large, regular supplement doses that coumarin may stress the liver in sensitive people. Amoxicillin, while usually easy on the liver, can occasionally irritate it too, so the worry is simply that two mild liver stressors might add up.
Honestly, this is a theoretical concern based on how these things behave, not on real cases of this exact pairing. The cinnamon you sprinkle on toast or oatmeal won't matter. If you're taking high-dose cinnamon supplements daily, especially with liver issues, just mention it to your pharmacist or doctor first.

About Cassia Cinnamon
What is Cassia Cinnamon?
- Blood sugar support
- Digestive upset
- Antioxidant support
- Flavoring and culinary use
- Antimicrobial
Cassia cinnamon is the common, inexpensive cinnamon used in cooking, and it is also taken as a supplement, most often for blood sugar support. The evidence for its health benefits is mixed and far from proven, and because cassia is naturally high in coumarin, taking large amounts regularly may stress the liver. Use food amounts freely, but talk with a pharmacist or doctor before using high-dose supplements.
About Amoxicillin
What Is Amoxicillin Used For?
Brand names: Amoxil Capsules, Trimox, Wymox, Amix, Amoram, Amoxident, Galenamox, Rimoxallin, Amoxil Injection
Amoxicillin treats bacterial infections in both adults and children, including ear, nose, and throat infections; lower respiratory tract infections; skin and skin structure infections; and genitourinary tract infections.
In adults only, amoxicillin is also used — always combined with other medications — to eradicate Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori), the bacteria behind duodenal ulcers. Getting rid of H. pylori has been shown to reduce the chance of those ulcers coming back. It is only effective against bacteria that are susceptible to it and will not work against viral infections like the common cold or flu.
