ANTIDIABETES DRUGS
Why this applies to Muraglitazar
Muraglitazar falls under ANTIDIABETES DRUGS — the group Cassia Cinnamon interacts with.
Cassia cinnamon may lower blood glucose levels, and have additive effects in patients treated with antidiabetic agents. Dose adjustments to diabetes medications might be necessary.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the simple version: Muraglitazar is a diabetes medicine designed to bring blood sugar down. Cassia cinnamon, when taken as a concentrated supplement, may also nudge blood sugar a little lower. Put the two together and those effects can stack up, so your numbers could dip further than you expect. This isn't about the cinnamon changing how Muraglitazar is broken down, it's just two things pushing in the same direction.
If your blood sugar runs too low, you might feel shaky, sweaty, dizzy, or unusually tired. Keep in mind the evidence for cinnamon's blood sugar effect is fairly weak, and a sprinkle on your oatmeal is unlikely to matter. Daily high-dose capsules are a different story. Before adding a cinnamon supplement, check with your pharmacist or doctor first.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Muraglitazar page
“I read this list with genuine care, because muraglitazar (Pargluva) lowers blood sugar to treat type 2 diabetes, and 239 of the 256 supplements here can push that same lever. Most add to its effect and raise the risk of hypoglycemia, meaning blood sugar dropping too low; a smaller share, niacin among them, push sugar up instead.”

About Cassia Cinnamon
What is Cassia Cinnamon?
- Blood sugar support
- Digestive upset
- Antioxidant support
- Flavoring and culinary use
- Antimicrobial
Cassia cinnamon is the common, inexpensive cinnamon used in cooking, and it is also taken as a supplement, most often for blood sugar support. The evidence for its health benefits is mixed and far from proven, and because cassia is naturally high in coumarin, taking large amounts regularly may stress the liver. Use food amounts freely, but talk with a pharmacist or doctor before using high-dose supplements.
