Why this applies to Aspirin, Hydrocodone

Aspirin, Hydrocodone falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Cat's Claw interacts with.

Theoretically, cat's claw might increase or decrease the levels and effects of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4.
Cat's claw may affect the clearance of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4. In vitro research shows that cat's claw can inhibit CYP3A4 enzymes. In one case report, a patient taking cat's claw (at an unspecified dose) experienced increased serum levels of atazanavir, ritonavir, and saquinavir, all of which are CYP3A4 substrates. Levels returned to normal 15 days after discontinuation of the cat's claw supplement, suggesting inhibition of CYP3A4 by cat's claw. In contrast, animal research suggests that rhynchophylline, an alkaloid contained in cat's claw, induces CYP3A expression and accelerates the metabolism of nirmatrelvir, the active component in the nirmatrelvir/ritonavir combination product.

This combo pill pairs aspirin with hydrocodone, an opioid pain reliever. Here's the wrinkle: hydrocodone is partly handled by a liver enzyme called CYP3A4, which turns it into related compounds. Cat's claw may nudge that enzyme either way. In lab and animal studies it has both slowed the enzyme (which could let hydrocodone build up, bringing more drowsiness, dizziness, constipation, or slowed breathing) and sped it up (which could blunt your pain relief).

I want to be honest, though: this is mostly theoretical and based on test-tube and animal data, not solid human studies. I'm not telling you to start or stop anything. Just give your pharmacist or doctor a heads-up before combining them, especially since opioids already carry real sedation risk.

Theoretically, cat's claw may increase the risk of bleeding if used with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs.
Cat's claw contains rhynchophylline and isorhynchophylline. Animal research suggests that these alkaloids can inhibit platelet aggregation. This interaction has not been reported in humans.

Here's the thing to know about your Lortab ASA, which combines aspirin with hydrocodone. The aspirin part already thins your blood a little by keeping platelets from clumping together. Cat's claw may do something similar based on animal and lab work, so stacking the two could, in theory, nudge your bleeding risk a bit higher. That might show up as easier bruising, nosebleeds, bleeding gums, or a cut that takes longer to stop.

I want to be straight with you though: this concern comes only from test-tube and animal studies, and it hasn't actually been reported in people. The hydrocodone side isn't really involved here. Still, if you take aspirin daily or have any bleeding issues, please check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding cat's claw.
