In human and laboratory research, cat's claw has been shown to have immunostimulating activity. It stimulates phagocytosis and increases respiratory cellular activity and the mobility of leukocytes. Theoretically, this could interfere with the activity of immunosuppressant medications.

Here's the idea with Simponi (golimumab) and cat's claw. Golimumab works by calming down an overactive immune system, which is exactly what helps with rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, and psoriatic arthritis. Cat's claw, on the other hand, seems to do the opposite in lab and animal studies. It appears to rev up certain immune cells. So in theory, taking it could push against what golimumab is trying to accomplish and make your joint pain, swelling, or stiffness harder to control.

I want to be honest though: this concern comes from test-tube and animal research, not real-world cases, so the evidence is pretty thin. Still, since golimumab is a serious medicine for a serious condition, I'd run any cat's claw use past your rheumatologist or pharmacist first rather than starting it on your own.

What Is Golimumab Injection Used For?

Brand name: Simponi Aria

Golimumab injection is used to treat several inflammatory conditions. Simponi (subcutaneous) is approved for adults with moderately to severely active rheumatoid arthritis (in combination with methotrexate), active psoriatic arthritis, active ankylosing spondylitis, and moderately to severely active ulcerative colitis in adults and pediatric patients weighing at least 15 kg.

Simponi Aria (intravenous) is used for adults with moderately to severely active rheumatoid arthritis. Both products target the same inflammation pathway but are given by different routes and are each approved for specific conditions — they are not interchangeable across all uses.
