Encorafenib falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Chokeberry interacts with.

Theoretically, chokeberry might increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4.
In vitro research shows that chokeberry inhibits CYP3A4. In humans, there is one case report of a drug interaction with trabectedin, a CYP3A4 substrate, which is hypothesized to have been caused by chokeberry inhibition of CYP3A4.

Here's the gist for Braftovi (encorafenib). Your body clears this cancer drug mainly through a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. Chokeberry has shown, in test-tube studies, that it can slow that same enzyme down. If that happens in real life, encorafenib could clear more slowly and build up in your system, which may mean stronger side effects like fatigue, joint or muscle pain, nausea, headache, or skin changes. Encorafenib is active on its own (not a prodrug), so more drug sticking around means a bigger effect, not a smaller one.

I want to be straight with you though: this is mostly theoretical, based on lab data and one case report with a different drug. Since encorafenib is serious cancer therapy, please don't start chokeberry supplements without checking with your oncology team or pharmacist first.

About Encorafenib

What Is Encorafenib Used For?

Brand name: Braftovi

Braftovi is used to treat cancers that have a specific change (mutation) in a gene called BRAF — specifically the V600E or V600K mutation, which must be confirmed by an FDA-authorized test before starting treatment. It is always used in combination with other medicines, never alone as standard therapy.

Braftovi (in combination with binimetinib) treats unresectable or metastatic melanoma with a BRAF V600E or V600K mutation. For metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC) with a BRAF V600E mutation, Braftovi is used either with cetuximab and fluorouracil-based chemotherapy, or with cetuximab alone after prior therapy. Braftovi (in combination with binimetinib) also treats metastatic non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) with a BRAF V600E mutation.
