Chokeberry + Levomilnacipran
Levomilnacipran brand name: Fetzima.
Chokeberry has a moderate interaction with Levomilnacipran. Theoretically, chokeberry might increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES
Why this applies to Levomilnacipran
Levomilnacipran falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Chokeberry interacts with.
In vitro research shows that chokeberry inhibits CYP3A4. In humans, there is one case report of a drug interaction with trabectedin, a CYP3A4 substrate, which is hypothesized to have been caused by chokeberry inhibition of CYP3A4.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist with Fetzima (levomilnacipran) and chokeberry. Your body relies partly on an enzyme called CYP3A4 to clear this antidepressant. Chokeberry, at least in test-tube studies, seems to slow that enzyme down a bit. If it does the same in people, your levomilnacipran could build up slightly, which might mean more of its usual effects like nausea, a faster heartbeat, sweating, higher blood pressure, or trouble sleeping.
That said, I want to be honest about the evidence: this is mostly theory plus one case report with a different drug, so it's far from proven. Everyday amounts of chokeberry juice or jam are unlikely to cause trouble. Concentrated supplements are the bigger question. Before starting one, just run it by your pharmacist or doctor.

Every interaction above is graded three ways — here’s the key to each label.
Clinically significant. Avoid the combination, or use only under close professional supervision.
Usually worth avoiding or managing — may need monitoring, a dose change, or timing apart.
Generally not serious. Be aware of it and mention it to your pharmacist.
- LikelyWell-controlled human studies have demonstrated the likely existence of this interaction.
- ProbableInteraction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports.
- PossibleInteraction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
- UnlikelyInteraction has been demonstrated in animal or in lab research but has been shown not to occur in humans.

About Chokeberry
What is Chokeberry?
- Antioxidant support
- Heart and blood vessel health
- Blood pressure support
- Blood sugar support
- Common cold symptoms
- Anti-inflammatory support
Chokeberry (aronia) is a dark berry rich in antioxidants called polyphenols, and it's widely eaten as juice, jam, and supplements. Early research hints it may support heart health, blood pressure, and blood sugar, but the evidence is still limited and far from proven. It's generally well tolerated as a food, but talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using concentrated supplements.
