Drug & supplement interaction

Choline + Methazolamide

Methazolamide brand name: Neptazane.

No Known Interaction
The bottom line No known interaction

We found no known interaction between Choline and Methazolamide in our sources. Absence of a documented interaction is not the same as proven safety, and does not guarantee one does not exist. Do not start, stop, or change a medication or supplement based on this page; confirm with your pharmacist or doctor first. Additionally, although there is no interaction, the two are separately associated with some of the same side effects, which would make a new symptom harder to attribute to one or the other.

Choline and Methazolamide

We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.

No Known Interaction Found

We did not find a documented interaction between Methazolamide and Choline in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.

If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.

Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

How we checked

Why No Interaction Is Listed for Methazolamide

Interactions in our licensed database are recorded against drug classes, not just single drug names. Methazolamide is filed under 5 classifications — including carbonic anhydrase inhibitors, diuretic drugs, antihypertensive drugs. Choline has documented interactions with 1 drug class — the most serious being atropine (minor) — and none of Methazolamide’s classifications are among them.

Classification data comes from our licensed Natural Medicines dataset. A medication can belong to classes beyond those recorded there, so this describes how the check was run — it is not a safety guarantee.

What to actually watch for

No Interaction Found — But Data Suggests Choline and Methazolamide May Share Several of the Same Side Effects

This is not an interaction. Neither one changes how your body handles the other, and nothing here says they react together. What our sources do show is that each has separately been linked to the effects below — so taking both can make those effects more likely to turn up, and harder to pin on one or the other if they do.

Reported for Choline but not commonly for Methazolamide: loss of bladder control, low blood pressure, low mood and sweating.

Effects for Methazolamide come from the ADVERSE REACTIONS section of its FDA label; effects for Choline come from the Natural Medicines adverse-effect record, quoted above. Where a percentage is shown, it is the share of 339 voluntary FDA FAERS reports for Methazolamide that mention that effect — a reporting proportion, not an incidence rate and not evidence the drug caused it. Choline in Pregnancy & Breastfeeding

Pregnancy And Lactation Likely Safe

When used orally and appropriately. Choline is safe when taken in doses below the tolerable upper intake level (UL), which is 3 grams daily during pregnancy and lactation in those up to 18 years of age and 3.5 grams daily for those 19 years and older. There is insufficient reliable information available about the safety of choline used in higher doses during pregnancy and lactation.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Methazolamide page

“Methazolamide (Neptazane) treats glaucoma by lowering pressure inside the eye, and because it also has mild water-pill effects it can nudge blood pressure and potassium on its own. That is exactly where most of the 218 supplements on this page press, and the list earns real caution.”

About Choline

What is Choline?

Choline
  • Liver health and fatty liver
  • Brain and memory support
  • Prenatal nutrition and fetal development
  • General nutritional supplementation
  • Sports performance

Choline is an essential nutrient your body needs for liver function, brain health, and nerve signaling, and many people get enough from foods like eggs, meat, and fish. Supplements may help people who are deficient or who have higher needs (such as during pregnancy), but they are not proven cure-alls and very high doses can cause side effects. Check with your pharmacist or doctor before starting a supplement.

Not applicable (an essential nutrient found in foods and made in the body) · Capsules, tablets, softgels, and powders; common forms include choline bitartrate, choline chloride, phosphatidylcholine, alpha-GPC, and CDP-choline (citicoline)

An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Choline is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Choline record says about it on its own.

Choline: dosing

There is no single "treatment" dose of choline that works for everyone, and the right amount depends on your age, sex, life stage, and diet. Health authorities have set recommended adequate intake levels for daily choline as well as a daily upper limit, but these are general nutrition guides rather than doses for treating any condition.Supplements come in different strengths and forms, and the amount of actual choline varies by form.

Methazolamide tablets are used to treat eye conditions where lowering intraocular pressure (pressure inside the eye) is expected to help. These include chronic open-angle glaucoma and secondary glaucoma.

Methazolamide tablets are also used before surgery in acute angle-closure glaucoma, when reducing eye pressure ahead of the procedure is needed. Note that long-term use in angle-closure glaucoma is not appropriate.
