Here's the simple version: coffee charcoal acts a lot like activated charcoal in your gut. Its porous surface can grab onto things you swallow, and that may include your megestrol. If the charcoal soaks up some of the medicine before your body absorbs it, less megestrol gets into your bloodstream. For someone using the suspension to boost appetite and gain weight, or the tablets to help manage cancer, that could mean you're getting a weaker effect than intended.

This concern is theoretical, based on how charcoal behaves rather than hard studies with megestrol specifically. A practical fix many people use is spacing them out by at least two hours. Please run this by your pharmacist or doctor before combining them so they can confirm the timing for you.

Megestrol acetate oral suspension treats anorexia (loss of appetite), cachexia (wasting), or unexplained significant weight loss in people with AIDS. Megestrol acetate tablets are used for palliative treatment (relief of symptoms, not a cure) of advanced breast or endometrial cancer that is recurrent, inoperable, or has spread.
