Coffee Charcoal and Oxandrolone

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.

Interaction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports..

Dr. Brian Staiger, PharmD, BCPS
Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

Here's the simple version: coffee charcoal acts a bit like activated charcoal in your gut. Its porous surface can grab onto things you swallow, and that includes your oxandrolone tablet. If you take them at the same time, the charcoal may soak up some of the pill before your body absorbs it, so less of the medicine gets into your system.

For oxandrolone, that could mean you don't get the full benefit you're counting on, like building back weight, muscle, or strength after illness or surgery. The good news is this is a theoretical concern based on how charcoal behaves, not strong patient studies. An easy fix is spacing: take your oxandrolone and the coffee charcoal at least two hours apart. Check with your pharmacist before combining them.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Oxandrolone page

“Every supplement known to interact with oxandrolone (Oxandrin, Anavar) works the same basic way: it can change how much of the tablet actually reaches your bloodstream. About Coffee Charcoal

What is Coffee Charcoal?

  • Diarrhea
  • Inflammatory bowel conditions
  • Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)
  • Mild digestive upset
  • Wound and skin care (topical, traditional)

Coffee charcoal is made by roasting green coffee beans until they turn black, creating a charcoal-like material used traditionally for diarrhea and digestive complaints. Scientific evidence supporting its benefits is very limited, and it should not replace proven treatments. Talk with your pharmacist or doctor before using it, especially if you have a chronic gut condition.

About Oxandrolone

What Is Oxandrolone Used For?

Brand names: Oxandrin, Anavar

  • Oxandrolone is used with a diet program to cause weight gain in people who have lost too much weight due to surgery, injury, chronic (long-lasting) infections, trauma, or who are underweight for unknown reasons. Oxandrolone is also used to treat bone pain in people with osteoporosis (a condition in which the bones become thin and weak and break easily) and to prevent certain side effects in people who take corticosteroids (a group of medications used to treat many conditions that involve inflammation or swelling of part of the body) for a long time. Oxandrolone is in a class of medications called androgenic hormones. It works by increasing the amount of protein made by the body. This protein is used to build more muscle and increase body weight.
